Went to Culver City last night to see "Dogeaters" at the Kirk Douglas Theater. It's a fascinating show about the political and social turmoil in the Philippines of the early 80s.
The show begins with the assassination of anti-Marcos Senator Avila in the lobby of the Intercontinental Hotel. At one point in the show Imelda Marcos describes herself as "the people's S & S -- their slave and their star."
A huge cast of 20 actors cover 41 roles telling several different stories set in Manila.
Hats off to the Center Theatre Group for mounting such an ambitious show.
