More is More
Went to the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Boulevard tonight for a screening of the over-the-top Busby Berkeley 1943 classic, "The Gang's All Here" starring Carmen Miranda.
Even though the print had faded a little bit (literally), what a colorful mess of a movie it is. Showgirls lined up with giant bananas, monkeys climbing trees and sassy dialogue -- this movie has it all.
Miranda sings "The Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat" and Berkeley pulls out all the choreography stops in the "Polka Dot Polka" number.
No wonder a British critic described the film as "some sort of apotheosis in vulgarity."
