Thrill Seekers

Sunday afternoon I had a chance to catch The Blank Theater Company's exciting world premiere of "Dickie & Babe: The Truth About Leopold & Loeb," written and directed by Daniel Henning.

Henning spent years researching the 1920s crime that scandalized America -- two young men, one brilliant and one wealthy, kidnapped and killed a boy just to prove to themselves they could pull off the "perfect" crime. Once arrested they turned on each other and were quickly convicted. Only Clarence Darrow's eloquent defense (paid for by the Loeb family fortune) saved them from the death penalty.

Henning's show evokes the 20s beautifully and allows the audience to see "how" such a senseless crime could happen -- without letting anyone off the hook.
