My Great Aunt Jane Gaylor, described what it was like for my Grandmother to grow up as the oldest of nine children (Jane is the second youngest) on a farm six miles outside of Russellville, Arkansas during the Depression.

At the time children growing up on farms in the area went to a one-room school house until they completed the eighth grade. My Great Grandfather Lee Dover, was part of the effort to consolidate their community within the Russellville School District, meaning the area's children could then attend high school.

All nine Dover children completed high school -- a local accomplishment of note. Posted by Picasa
