I Did

Went this afternoon to see The Blank Theatre Company's World Premiere of "Hotel C'est l'Amour" by Michael John LaChiusa and Daniel Henning.

It's a musical with twenty-eight songs and no dialogue. Set in a Japanese style hotel, it follows newlyweds on their marriage night as they realize the inevitable cycles of love in their new life ahead together.

Infidelity, boredom, regret and determination all come into play.

With no dialogue the show seems very avant-garde.

LaChiusa's songs crackle with energy, as they did in his "The Wild Party," which starred Eartha Kitt on Broadway.

Funny Lady Vicki Lewis (best known for TV's "Newsradio") steals the show on several occasions as a hotel maid ready to belt out a tune.
