A Cut Above (er, Below?)

Went to see "TransAmerica" tonight -- nominated for two Golden Globes. It's about a transgender woman who, five days before her reassignment surgery, discovers she has a 17-year-old son, in trouble with the law, from when she was "Stanley."

Felicity Huffman (of "Desperate Housewives") gives an impressive performance as "Bree." After Bree bails her son out of jail in NYC -- while hiding her paternity and claiming to be a church representative -- they drive cross country to Los Angeles. And like all good road movies, trials and tribulations ensue.

Because it deals with an issue rarely seen in the pictures I was really rooting for this film -- but in the end thought it was just OK.

And it bugged me that while Bree was in a rush to get back to Los Angeles for her surgical appointment just a few days hence, they took the entire trip on two lane roads. I know there are more stories along country roads -- but get yourself on the interstate, woman.

Celebrity Sighting: Saw Tommy Lasorda having supper at Canter's Deli tonight. I guess the SlimFast sponsorship is over because he sure wasn't having "just a shake" for dinner. Of course, neither was I.
