Something's Fishy

Enjoyed the Tony Bennett concert tonight at the Hollywood Bowl. He's still going strong and sounds and looks great.

He told some funny stories about his career. Here's how he got his name: He was performing with Pearl Bailey in Greenwich Village about 60 years ago. Bob Hope came in to see Bailey and heard Bennett singing. He wanted Bennett to go on the road with him and asked the singer his name. "Anthony Dominic Benedetti," he replied. "That won't fit on the marquee. Let's Americanize it," Hope said. And thus Tony Bennett was created on the spot by Bob Hope.

Picked up dinner for the Bowl at Greenblatt's Deli -- the deli with the best food most likely to screw up an order. My friend, Dave, asked for an "egg salad" sandwich. When we got to our seats, Dave unwrapped his sandwich to find "tuna salad." Greenblatt's strikes again. At least Dave said it was good tuna salad.
