Well, Golly

Had one of the all-time great Sunday Brunches today at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii. The setting on the south side of Oahu is amazing. And being seated at a table outside next to the beach sure didn't hurt. The food was excellent and plentiful and the service was outstanding.

Turns out this hotel used to be the Kahala Hilton Hotel and has a long history of celebrity guests. They have a great wall of photos of celebrated visitors (see above).

Trojan Celebrity Sightings: Saw USC Football Coaching Legend John Robinson walking around the shops at the Hilton Hawaiian Village this morning. And coming into the restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental, my friend, Jim Brown, and I followed USC President Stephen Sample and his wife, Mrs. Sample. Ironically, he was turned away for the lack of a reservation, while Jim and I -- two fanatical planners -- were promptly shown to our delightful table.

I'm so happy to see Jerry Lewis looking good on his telethon and I'm thankful that the broadcast includes Hawaii. My thirty-plus year streak of watching at least part of the telethon continues.

Jim and I caught "The Constant Gardner" tonight at the movie theater at the Dole Cannery. Two thumbs up from us. It's an exciting thriller about British diplomats caught up in pharmaceutical companies exploiting Africa. (Not the greatest timing for that industries' political campaign against a November ballot initiative in California.)
