Friday night I went to see "The Time of Your Life" by William Saroyan at the Open Fist Theater on Santa Monica Boulevard.
My colleague, Jim Kieffer, stars in the show as "Tom" a somewhat dim-witted fellow beholden to a Drunkard who saved his life.
The performances were all strong and it's a good production but I found this play, written in 1939, a little slow.
However, I really enjoyed the scene where Tom and the Drunkard have a gum chewing contest. I was most impressed that Jim Kieffer could deliver his lines while simultaneously chewing 21 sticks of gum. I watched closely and (unlike his scene partner) Jim put all the gum in his mouth.
