Easy Border Crossing

Made my way to Lake Tahoe (via Reno) today for a conference. I don't think I've been in South Lake Tahoe for 25 years.

In the photo above you can see the little road (with the white van on it) that divides California from Nevada. My hotel, the Embassy Suites, is in California on the right side of the road. Harrah's Casino is in, obviously, Nevada on the left side of the road.

I spent this evening at the Horizon Casino, just down from Harrah's. First I had dinner, then played a little blackjack, then I watched "The Devil Wears Prada." (I think it's so interesting that so many movie theaters in Nevada are located inside casinos.)

Loved the movie. Meryl Streep is tremendous in the role of an abusive boss with a heart of ice (and a dab of gold). All the fashions are over-the-top, but make for great viewing.

It was 95 degrees when I landed in Reno. It was around 85 once I got up to South Lake Tahoe. But coming out of the movie theater/casino it was glorious to feel the cool, mountain air -- probably in the 60s. Quite a relief from the last few nights in Los Angeles.
