I Know What You're Saying To Yourself

Had a chance tonight to see the amazing "Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants" at the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood.

Jay is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest sleight of hand artists. He performs close-up magic (card tricks, cups and balls, etc.) that is both mind-blowing and familiar. What makes his show special is his tremendous skill and sense of respect for the history of magic.

He tells tales of cons, hustles and cheats -- I don't know if any of them are true, but I could listen for hours.

And his "card-throwing" feats are impressive too.

Ted,

I was struck by the "directed by David Mamet" line on his poster. Is that for real? Was there any Glengarry Glenross action?

Are you officially through seeing all those Golden Globe noms?

Cheers!

Yes, it's the real-life David Mamet. And his touch is quite obvious in the rat-a-tat-tat delivery of the patter.

Jay and Mamet have worked together on several projects. Jay has appeared in some movie Mamet wrote.

Two Golden Globe nominated movies to go -- "Stranger Than Fiction" today and "The Painted Veil" tomorrow. Then I'll be done. Just in time!
