Wednesday night I went to see the lush revival of Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George" at Studio 54. Based on the life of painter Georges Seurat, I was moved by this beautiful musical.
The first act is set in the 1880 and is inspired by Seurat's painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." The show features amazing video graphics that show the painting coming together as Seurat paints it.
I didn't know anything about this show before seeing it and was completely unprepared for the emotional impact of the second act -- set in the present day.
British actor Daniel Evans is nominated for a Tony and he certainly deserves the nomination. Fellow Brit Jenna Russell (who I saw a few years ago in "Guys and Dolls" in London) also is very effective in her performance.
