We Are DEVO, D-E-V-O
After tonight's game (in which the Dodgers beat the Rockies 6 to 3) the Dodgers shot off fireworks to salute the 25th anniversary of 1981 -- the year I turned 18. (Coincidentally, the Dodgers also won the World Series that year.)
The fireworks were accompanied by music from 1981. I spent most of the game thinking about all the music groups I loved that year.
Once the fireworks started I wasn't very happy about having it sit through the Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond, Bon Jovi and Dolly Parton singing "9 to 5."
But they finally got to The Go Gos, "Whip It" by DEVO and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar.
Sadly, they skipped right over Josie Cotton -- who I met in 1981 when she performed at USC.
