Back to Back to Back to Back
Tonight's Dodgers vs. Padres game was the most exciting regular season baseball game I've ever been to -- and not just because they gave away fleece blankets.
Last night the Padres beat the Dodgers to take a half-game lead in the NL West. Tonight, in their last game of the regular season against the Padres, the Dodgers would either win and take back the lead in NL West, or lose and fall one and a half games behind the Padres -- with 12 games remaining on their schedule.
Going into the bottom of the ninth inning the Dodgers were down 9 to 5. Then four Dodgers -- Jeff Kent, J.D. Drew, Russell Martin and Marlon Anderson -- came to the plate and hit four consecutive Home Runs tying the score.
This is only the fourth time in all of Major League Baseball history that a team has hit four consecutive Home Runs in a single inning. The last time it happened was 1964.
The ninth inning ended with the teams tied at 9.
In the top of the tenth inning the Padres scored a run to lead 10 to 9.
In the bottom of the tenth, Dodger Kenny Lofton led off the inning with a walk.
And then Nomar Garciaparra hit a 2-run Home Run to win the game for the Dodgers. The picture above is Nomar being mobbed by his teammates when he reached Home Plate with the crowd erupting in pandemonium.
What a night!
