No Back Story Necessary
Went to Culver City this afternoon to see the Kirk Douglas Theatre's production of "Nighthawks."
This play is inspired by Edward Hopper's iconic 1942 painting of a couple and a lone man sitting late at night at a diner counter in Greenwich Village.
Playwright Douglas Steinberg decided to write a play about the characters in the painting and what was going on in their lives.
The set is amazing. It really does look like the painting. Same thing with the costumes.
Too bad the dialogue is so painful to listen to. An attempt at "Film Noir" talkin' that just don't come off. You got it? Good.
These characters are better off left two dimensional -- at least by this writer.
