Elephants. Notice the baby behind its mother in the front. The baby wanted to come over to say hello and the mother wouldn't allow it.

This is one of the Land Rovers we used for our three hour game drives. The tracker sits in the seat on the hood. The main entrance to the Elephant Plains Lodge is in the background.

Four of us went walking through the bush with our ranger.

We watched these elephants bathing during our 2 hour walk in the bush. Scary and amazing at the same time. But our ranger carried a rifle, just in case.

Giraffe bones. Probably killed by a lion.

African toll road.

Water buffalo.

This water buffalo seemed to have the job of watching us to make sure we didn't make any trouble. It never took its eyes off of us.

We saw this baby elephant a couple of times. He seemed to like to come close to our jeep to say hello. His mother stopped him from getting too close.

Our driver and tracker setting up Sundowner cocktails somewhere in the bush.

Initially my luggage didn't show up at Hoedspruit airport. Fortunately they showed up on the next flight, only one hour later. I waited on this rock.

This is the entire Hoedspruit airport. I flew there from Johannesburg to get to the Elephant Plains Lodge. The tractor is how they deliver your bags from the airplane -- if they show up.

This is my room at the Elephant Plains Game Lodge. Notice the mosquito netting over the bed. The windows look out over the bush and a water hole where animals sometimes gather.

This is the famous clocktower in the Victoria & Albert Waterfront in Cape Town.

Here's the tail of a whale we saw on the boat ride back from Robben Island.

This former political prisioner led us on the tour of the prison on Robben Island.

Robben Island lies 7 miles off the coast from Cape Town. It has been used to house political prisioners and undesireables since the 1600s. Now it is a museum open to the public

This is the prison cell where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in confinement on Robben Island.

My hotel in Cape Town was in the charming De Waterkant Village section of town. You can see the bay in the distance.

Here a view of Cape Town BEFORE going up to the top of Table Mountain.
