Sunday I went to the Pasadena Playhouse to see their production of a new play, "Matter of Honor" written by Michael J. Chepiga.
It's about Johnson Whittaker, one of the first African-American cadets accepted into West Point (1876).
It's a moving examination of race relations in the military (and society) a few years after the Civil War. The production is impressive except this afternoon's performance was marred by technical problems at the very end of the show.
According to the sound engineer I spoke to after the show, a short video is supposed to run wrapping up the story and telling the audience what happened to Cadet Whittaker. Instead the screen simply read "Samsung Digital," which seemed out of place in a New York City home in 1882.
