Time Travel

Went last night as a guest of Geezbob's to see a Swedish Tribute Band performing the music of ABBA at the Hollywood Bowl. It was 70s terrific.

The music was pure fun and the band was good. They even sang "SOS" in Swedish and did a little Swedish finger dance too.

Too bad they didn't perform my favorite ABBA song, "Don't Go Wasting Your Emotion." It always makes me cry, even in Swedish.

The outfits were just perfect.

This guy played the horn and flute on all of ABBA's albums. He was probably in his 20s at the time.

More outfits -- these had evil bunnies on the front.

I thought this guy was cheesy. But he said we were an "amaaazing" audience, so I guess I should cut him some slack.

On Thursday I was still in Fresno so I went to the Dog House Grill for lunch. Located across the street from Fresno State, this is a great hamburgers and BBQ kind of a place. The restaurant was packed with folks watching the World Cup soccer games on the big screens.

Thursday night I had dinner at Imperial Gardens, described by TripAdvisor as the "best" Chinese restaurant in Fresno. That may be true, but I thought it was just okay.

Before leaving Fresno on Friday I stopped off for lunch at BJ's Kountry Kitchen. The food was good and I love the "rustic" look of the place.

Driving home from Fresno I detoured through Hanford so I could stop at Superior Dairy, home to the best ice cream in California. The place looks exactly like it must have in the 1940s.

Who knew they still had Oscar Meyer Weinermobiles? I saw this one south of Santa Clarita driving back into Los Angeles.

New Discoveries

I knew I'd have enough time in Fresno to check out some unfamiliar restaurants so I decided to do some research.

Can you believe I've never looked at restaurant reviews on TripAdvisor? I found some places that looked interesting and brought the reviews with me.

The Number One rated restaurant in Fresno on TripAdvisor is "The Lime Light." I went there for lunch and was very impressed. The food was excellent and the restaurant was very comfortable.

This photo doesn't really do the place justice. I think the flash messed up how it really looks -- dark and clubby.

And the service was terrific. Probably won't go back there on this trip -- but I think it goes on the list along with the Chicken Pie Shop as a regular place to go when in Fresno.

I had dinner tonight at a lovely Italian restaurant, "Parma" in the tony northwest section of Fresno.

It's a little too fancy to be a regular stop for me, but I enjoyed my pasta this evening.

The owner is a delight -- greeting me at the door with a firm hand-shake. I told her I found her restaurant on TripAdvisor but she told me she never reads on-line reviews.

Is This Cruel or Just Stupid?

You Have Been Warned -- Have a Nice Day

Homecoming, Yo

Went to the Lounge Theater on Theater Row in Hollywood tonight to see "Fabulation or the Re-education of Undine" by Lynn Nottage.

It's an interesting show about no matter how much someone tries to change their life their family and upbringing will always be part of them.

Undine Barnes Calles is a successful high-society event planner forced to move home to the projects in Brooklyn when a dishonest husbands absconds with all her money.

Hilarity and poignancy ensues.
